Delmonico Steak

The cut of meat called Delmonico steak is a wonder to behold. Made famous by New York restaurant of the same name in the mid 19th century it is a thick cut of normally rib eye with lots of marbling. The only place we know of in Victoria that does this cut is Glenwood Meats in Langford. It is well worth the price for an occasional treat, but should be shared due to the size.

Clive’s Cocktail Bar

After supper at Vista 18, we had drinks at Clive's, at the ground level of Chateau Victoria where both reside. I enjoy vermouth and Amaro so I had a tasting of three of one ounce each. With the amount of amaro that the establishment has, it is a good way to taste test to see which ones I would buy. The atmosphere of the place is very hip and vibrant.

Bard and Banker

The Bard and Banker is a very good restaurant on Government and Fort street in downtown Victoria. For lunch I had the beef carpaccio. Next I had the heirloom tomatoes and bocconcini cheese balls. Everything was delicious as always.

Vista 18

My wife and I had our anniversary supper, and breakfast, at Chateau Victoria's Vista 18 restaurant. It definitely had a view and is on the 18th floor of the hotel.

We shared the fried squid appetizer

For a main I had the slow cooked lamb with potato cake, carrot puree, and arugula salad.

My wife had the seared salmon special with puree carrot and ancient grain mixture.

For dessert we had the cheese plate with three local BC cheeses. All the items were delicious.

For breakfast I had the smoked pork belly hash. Filled my stomach till the early afternoon.

Browns Social Club

I tried Browns Social Club at their Uptown location recently and ordered the Florida Special (turkey breast, smoked bacon, avocado, cheddar, house slaw, tomato, and chipotle mayo). Tried it again at the Vic West crafthouse location and it was again a great lunch that hot the spot. Would eat here or at the other place again.

Foo Asian Street Food

Foo is a great quick eatery on the busy corner of Blanchard and Yeats downtown Victoria. We have eaten here before and enjoyed the experience each time. I had the shrimp and pork combo with slightly spicy Shanghai noodles and veg. Delicious and filling.

Fern Cafe and Bakery

After dropping off our bikes to be serviced at North Park Cycle, my wife and I had a morning drink and baked good at Fern Cafe and Bakery. I had a dirty chai (Chai with espresso shot) and a shredded chorizo and cheese flatbun. Both were delicious and the outdoor seating was clean and pleasant. The staff was particularly happy and friendly. Would go here again if in the area.

Spinnakers

Every once in a while I or my wife and I, eat at Spinnaker's. it is a nice brewpub, with chocolatier and bakery, that serves good food. I commonly have the tasting board and today was no exception. Delicious with smoked salmon, oysters, kolbassa, three local cheeses, pickled cabbage and pickled onions, ancient mustard, and two kinds of bread. A perfect lunch for one or starter for a few.

Canada Day at Gorge Road Picnic

Every year, before the COVID pandemic, there was a grand community gathering on Gorge Road and park. This year it was a return to this celebration. We started at ~10am and it got really busy as lunch time approached. They close off the road the entire length of the Gorge park.

Boat rides were available for $2 per person.

This was the classic car section.

Kabab wrapped in naan with some sumac. Delicious!
