France - Paris day 02 -Conciergerie

Built in the 1200's as a palace, it became disused in 1358 until 1391. That was when It became a prison for many criminals including political prisoners.
During the French revolution and the reign of terror, this is where prisoners of the state were kept until thier trial and inevitable execution by guillotine.
This hall was built in the 1200's for the 2000 staff to eat. It was later used as the common room for the prisoners.
Marie Antoinette stayed here until her death and her room is furnished as it probably would have been.
