France -Paris day 02 - Outside Notre Dame

We went to Notre Dame with the intent of going inside, but the line-up was far too long. Instead we enjoyed the outside and planned to come back the next day.
Notre Dame is celebrating its 850th birthday and is planning many things this year. I like the detail in each level and with individual statues. The royal dudes in the middle are the kings of Judah. During the French revolution, people thought that they were French royals and broke off thier heads. A teacher secretly hid them in his back yard and were not found until the 1970s. The ones here are reproductions and the originals are in the Cluny museum in Paris. I will post our trip there later.
This door arch is on the end days of judgement. Click on it to see more detail.
A side view of the cathedral.
A back view. Since it is a gothic style, the supports are necessary to keep the walls from moving outwards.
The birds outside the church are very friendly and ate out of my hand!
