France -Paris day 02 - Sainte-Chapelle

Commissioned by the only French King who Iis also a saint, King Louis IX, it was worked on between 1242 and 1248. He had it built to house the supposed crown of thorns. The lower part is for the common people. It's upstairs that things get stained glass crazy.
Upstairs was reserved for royalty. The whole church actually cost less than what the king paid for the crown, which is no longer inside.
Instead we get this beautiful example of architecture and art combined.
The church is a stones throw away from Notre Dame on lle de la Cite.
A nice suprise and a great way to spend an hour. They also have occasional concerts here.
