France - Paris day 03 - Pantheon

The pantheon is an impressive structure conceived and built in the late 1700's.
It was originally designed as a church, in a Greek orthodox theme, to saint Genevieve. She is the woman who saved Paris from the huns and set prisoners free when it was taken over by Childeric the first. The picture above is a wonderful painting of the moment of her death.
After the French revolution, the building was re-imagined as a secular monument to nationalism. Above is some of the statuary installed here.
In the basement is a crypt with heroes and important Frenchmen and one woman, Marie Curie. Voltaire was the main person here and one of the few with a statue. Most have a stone coffin.
It is also interesting to walk around thinking about a Gary Gygax dungeon plan.
