France - Normandy Day 3 - Driving Around

We were amazed at the very high sides on the ditches. No wonder they were dangerous for allied and German tanks.

This marshland was one of the very few we saw.
There were lots of open fields near the beaches. This would have been very harrowing and dangerous for advancing allied forces.
The small towns would also have been dangerous for allied troops.
Each town had a monument dedicated tot he unit that liberated them. If there were deaths, the names of the allied troops who perished would be displayed on a plaque but sometimes were not.
