France - Normandy Day 3 - Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer

In the Eastern part of Juno beach was NAN sector, the beach the Canadian North Shore regiment landed on in WW2. This occurred at 730am on the 6th of June and during the fighting that day lost 150 men. They did manage to move further inland than any other regiment. My grandfather had pneumonia and missed the landings so I felt honor bound to go here.
Here is a video of the landing from inside a landing craft.
Not only did the North Shore regiment land here but the Fort Garry Horse (a tank regiment), the 5th field company Royal Canadian Engineers, the 19th field company of Royal Canadian Artillery landed here as well.
British 48 Royal Commandos were involved in brutal hand to hand combat in the Eastern part of the town and also suffered many losses. It is right that the civilians who also perished have their names on a plaque to be remembered.
This is a German gun emplacement. Notice that its all concrete on the seaward side but they could still pivot to attack sideways at ships, tanks or men.
The buildings at Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer are tight together and would have been very tough fighting for all involved.
There are many many more WW2 sites of interest along the coast.
