Full Day’s Events: Today, I woke early in the morning (530am) so I started it by writing a travel email and FB post. Unlike yesterday the birds were singing as the sun peeked over the horizon. The wind churned deluge was over.
Once the sun was fully up, we ate at the same place as yesterday as it was only 15 meters from our front door. I also ordered the same items but added a local item that is like french toast only made with special bread and honey on top. All tasty!
Next we trekked to the entry to the walls of Avila. They were open! The walk was safe and thrilling for higher altitude views inside and outside the solid walls and towers. It was also cool to see up close the details of engineering. I know that some repair and refurbishment has occurred since the walls were open for people, but the folks who work on it do such a great job it is hard to tell. A superb view with a good walk included and the bonus of sunshine on your face was a great way to start this day.
Once we walked to the end we needed sustenance prior to the 1.5 hour drive to Segovia. Casa Filipe, on Plaza de Mercado Chico, was chosen and when we walked in there were few places to stand or sit to eat in the bar area. Fortunately the server took us to the multiple levels of rooms in the back. We shared great olives and I ordered the huevos revueltos con setas y gambas (scrambled eggs with mushrooms and shrimp). It certainly hit the spot after our walk.
Back to our accommodations it was time to finish packing, bring our luggage to the car, drive through the map app unfriendly streets of Avila, and head East to Segovia. So ends part A of March 09. Stay tuned for part B.
