Sen Sushi

My wife treated me to supper at Sen Sushi and although it had been a while, it is one of our top Japanese restaurants in Victoria. First off the sushi makers were extremely happy and friendly, an excellent plus. The decor is very traditional with the right feel.

We each had the shrimp sunomono salad. I then had the grilled sun-dried whole mackerel, yam tempura roll and lastly the BBQ eel boxed roll. My wife had the tuna and salmon sashimi. We would definitly come here again.

Fireside Grill

My wife and I went to a birthday party at the Fireside Grill. It had been a while since we had been here and we would come again if in the area. I had the Crispy Fried Pork Belly (Ginger coconut crust, curried cauliflower pure, gaufrettes & wild arugula) and for a main had the House Candied Salmon Pizza (Fresh arugula & Romano cheese, caper creme fraiche, sundried tomatoes & onion). I also had a mock Mojita that was very tasty. My wife had the Pickled Ginger and Scallop Pakoras (Ponzu emulsion, tamari lemon grass aioli, water cress & green onion) and the Prawn and Scallop Linguine with extra prawns (Fresh basil, grape tomatoes, garlic olive oil, spinach & black beans).

Postcard of the Interwebs - 13 March 2014

Hidden Lightswitch: Very cool and inexpensive idea for a lightswitch using the old "pull back the book for the secret passageway" trope.

A Planet without a Star: A cool discovery of a rogue planet...or Death Star.

Movie Star Amalgam: Someone took all the popular movie stars and overlapped their pictures to form a face.

Evolution Explained: An excellent infographic of what evolution is. Good for science or using to educate others.

Wood stacked to look like a Tree: Very original and nifty. Art can take many forms.

Missing Star Wars Art Director Film Found: Roger Christian's missing 25 minute film "Black Angel" is found and restored. The preview looks cool and should be available on Netflix soon.

A Slowly freezing Lake: A nice picture.

Bengal Lounge East Indian Buffet at the Empress Hotel

While I was at Gottacon 2014 at the Victoria Conference Center, I decided to sample the famous Bengal Lounge East Indian Buffet in the connected Fairmount Empress Hotel.

I have heard a lot about the buffet in previous years and have had a regular meal there before. It was fantastic and the top tier of East Indian food in Victoria. Since it was the Empress it was pricy but not overly so. The setting is old Victorian style with elegant decor and prim and proper wait persons. Perhaps I may try the famous tea here sometime.
