Peace by Chocolate Tart

While on a walk with my sister and nephew, we chanced upon a waterfront location for Peace by Chocolate. I mentioned the company and family story in a previous post here. I picked up a chocolate tart and it was very delicious and smooth. I had picked up some of their boxes of chocolate earlier from Sobey's so didn't need any more from them at this time.

This is the last post for items found during my work trip to Quebec City and Halifax.

Agricola Street Brasserie

The best restaurant of my work trip to Halifax was Agricola Street Brasserie. The service was fantastic and excellent advice on wines and aperitifs.

For a starter I had the beef tartare with Atlantic beef, horseradish, truffle, and parsley pesto with house made chips.

For the main was maritime mushrooms, duck confit, arugula lettuce, red wine demi, and a large dollop of truffle ricotta cheese. Yum!

I would definitely return here again.

Agricola Books

Agricola Books in Halifax is a wonderful little used book store. A plus is that their catalogue is available to search on their website. It makes preplanning, or ordering from them, so much easier. The building itself is great repurposing of an old home and was a joy to walk through.

Goth Christmas and Halifax Forum Flea Market

I love a good flea market and when I lived in Halifax I liked coming to the Halifax Flea Market at the Forum once every few months. They have enough sellers to keep your interest but not so many that it seems like an all day chore to go through. Even though I only bought a nice scarf it was nice to walk around and chat with the sellers on their wares.

As an added bonus, the 11th annual "Have Yourself a Gothic Little Christmas" was next door.

They had a delightful cacophony of interesting items. I picked this purse for my spouse for her birthday...shhhh, don't tell her (she already knows).

I picked this up for myself. It is a fairy necklace and they come in all kinds of designs. I chose this alchemist style philosopher's stone one with a colour changing electronic globe inside.

I also picked up this dice holder that rolls out for a good surface to roll on or roll it up so it looks like a scrollcase.

A morning well spent.

Espresso 46

Espresso 46 on Isleville street in Halifax was nearby where I was staying and had a Christmas mini market going on so I tried their wares with an Italian hot chocolate. It was lovely and creamy with just enough sweetness. I have heard their coffee drinks were also good.

Bar Kismet

Bar Kismet in Halifax on Agricola street was a great way to start my stay in Halifax.

Beets, endive, and tahini yogurt was a great dish to start the meal off.

The star of the meal; grilled mackerel, borlotti beans, and dandelion. The mackerel was cooked to perfection and the oil of the fish with the beans and crispy skin was marvelous.

Ratinaud Charcuterie

Ratinaud Charcuterie is an impressive purveyor of meats, cheeses, and food related delights. Large display cases have various local/Canadian/International cured meats, cheeses (cow/goat/sheep), and pate as well as soup stocks, baguettes, and a kitchen with premade goods. Very impressive.

I picked up a baguette, pate, and two sheep cheeses soft and hard for snacking on while here in Halifax. All have been a delight to eat.

Fortune Donuts

Fortune Donuts is one of two specialty donut places on Gottingen street in Halifax. The decor was cool, staff friendly, and selection of donuts change each day. I chose the blueberry fritter and it was delicious. It had different texture than other donuts, more cake like, but I liked this difference. I would go back again if I ived in the area or visited Halifax again.

Downtown Halifax at Night

I met my sister and nephew in Halifax recently. We walked through downtown before and after supper. Here are some pictures of Downtown Halifax at night.

There are multiple statues, all the same, that do not have their frount halves but are instead mirrored.

A historic ship with snowflakes projected on the side.

I played a few games of mini-curling with my nephew. Great fun.

They have progressed on this new structure since last I was here. Supposed to be used as a small concert open air venue too.

The view from the top.

Very cool wire structure of a sailboat.

Construction company in the holiday spirit.

A kids playground that is oddly creepy at night.

The historic property section of the waterfrount.

Halifax city hall. Every once in a while the projected image becomes a short animated sequence that changes what is displayed while pleasant music is projected. Much better than the carnivorous Mic Mac Mall talking Christmas tree, Woody.

1640 Bistro

1640 Bistro is across from the entrance to Chateau Frontinac in Old Quebec city. It has an old world setting but with elegant features and additions.

I started with the onion soup and it hit the spot on a cold day of walking.

For a main I had beef jowl with pickled beetroot and vegetables with beefy sauce. Very tender meat.

Aux Anciens Canadiens

One of the restaurants I visited in old Quebec city was Aux Anciens Canadiens. My spouse and I went here 21 years ago and it is just as delicious now as it was then. Plus it is in an extremely old characterful building too.

I started with the game meat pie with asperigus, turnip, cabbage, and house made tomato sauce. Wonderful.

For dessert I had the maple syrup pie and I was glad I walked around the Old City some more to burn the calories off before bed.

Quebec Cheese Curds

I picked these cheese curds, at the instance of one of my coworkers. Not sure of the company that makes these as I have since finished off and threw away the packaging but they were very good with a slight saltiness that was pleasant.

Old Quebec City at Night

Some pictures of Old Quebec when the sun goes down.

The Province of Quebec Legislature.

One of the gates of Old Quebec.

Another gate just before sunset.

A hotel/restaurant in the midst of the holiday spirit.

Chateau Frontenac with a mini Frontenac in frount for kids visiting Santa, whom was not present at this time.

Quebec City during the Day

I was in Quebec City for work and walked around the old part. Here are some pictures.

The German Christmas Market has been going for 15 years. Vendors from the area can sell their wares and is a perfect opportunity to sip some mulled wine, try new foods/drinks, and shop for yourself or that special someone. Five locations with different vendors at each one.

They were working on part of the wall which shows some of the older wall underneath. Interesting.

Some of the buildings at the foot of the old city, by the St Lawrence river.

More buildings at the foot of the old city.

A rink set up by one of the German markets.

A very cool, not so old but fairly old, building. I love the brickwork as it looks different than other same era buildings.

India King in Moncton

In Moncton, on St George street, is India King. I had a platter of traditional favorites and they were all delicious and filling. The naan bread was nice and soft with crispy bits, just the way I like them.

Airport Food in Canada

I have been on two trips to the East cost of Canada in the last six weeks. Therefore I have tried a fair amount of airport food. Here are the better places.

The Montreal airport has the Pork and Pickle where I had a pork and grilled cheese sandwich. It hit the spot.

At the Calgary airport is the Burger Federation. I had the bison burger with crispy fries. Tasty.

In Toronto this was very tempting...a New Jersey cake vending machine. The slices were huge.

Boccone Trattoria by Massimo Capra was the best and most expensive out of the airport restaurants and is located in Toronto. I had the spagetti con gamberetti with fresh shrimp, zuccini, tomatoes, garlic, white wine, olive oil, and Italian hot chilli pepper. Delicious.

Finally Vancouver with The Dirty Apron where I got a Procutto, fig, and Brie sandwich. Oh my word was it delicious!
