Spain Day 03e-San Miguel Market

Built in 1913 and renovated for a 2009 reopening, San Miguel Market is a gastronomic wonderland with 31 food and wine stalls. It is also open till quite late; midnight or 1am most days of the year.

We decided that this would be our food variety evening to get more confident with tapas. It was crowded and intimidating but most of the sellers were very open and friendly.

We ordered most of our drinks from this establishment, choosing vermouth, red, or white depending on the food we were having.

You can order and eat/drink at any stall that has the room or sit down at one of the many counters or tables in the building.

Our first stop was this wonderful seafood tapas place.

The prices were clearly marked and all tasty.

This was a cheese stall, Quesoba. They were delicious.

The selection of olives and olive themed tapas was hard to resist.

Yummy yum yum!

We also went to this seller who specialized in ham.

We chose the acorn fed sliced ham. You could taste the flavour of the acorns and the fat melted in your mouth.

Finally it was dessert.

Chocolate tart and lemon cake. A wonderful way of rounding out an artful day with artful food.
