Great Chester's Roman Fort (Aesica)

Great Chester's Roman fort, or Aesica, was completed around 128 CE to protect the Caw Gap. Milecastle 43 was here but was demolished in order to build the fort. Some excavations were carried out over a hundred years ago and is now, like other forts, farmland.
Horses walking on the remains of the fort.
You see some foundations sticking up here and there if you know what to look for and have been to other forts.
This portion is in good shape and from its location I would guess it was the headquarters.
A Roman water reservoir.

There was an altar here, the only altar on the wall remaining in a fort. We left a suitable donation/offering.
The West side of the fort.
You can see, on the right, the remains of the ditch surrounding the West side of the fort.
