La Taquisa, in Westside Villiage, is a great Mexican food place to grab a tasty bite to eat.
I had the burrito fish pastor with a small container of their house made salsa. I had been walking around in the morning so this was a perfect lunch to eat on a bench on the way home. Delicious.
My spouse and I have eaten many times at il Covo, both in the restaurant and takeout during the height of COVID. I posted about the restaurant in 2015 but did not include pictures. I find them on par with the best Italian food in Victoria, Zambri's.
First I started with the wild mushroom soup that was creamy, earthy, and delicious. Bread was judiciously used to absorb the remaining soup remnants.
I had as a main the linguine alla putenesca: olives, garlic, anchovies, capers, and fresh tomato sauce. Magnificent every time.
Patisserie Daniel has been an established bakery in Victoria for decades. My spouse has been the one to go get treats from here and after going into here on my own, I now know why! There are a multitude of tempting baked goods made in house to tempt the unwary. Great staff too.
After trying the cheddar and dill flavours, Twigz craft pretzels are a tasty treat. Made in Canada they come in a variety of flavours. At ~$5 each they will be an occasional treat for me.
My spouse and I first experienced the Zara clothing chain in France many years ago and it is a Spanish company. We enjoyed the varied selection of high and low priced goods in a nice setting. I found out there was one in Halifax when I was here and explored what they had. I picked up some new winter gloves but passed on many other items due to space constraints. It has ported over from Europe quite nicely.
We attended a concert organized by EMSI, featuring Diabolus in Musica. The title of the concert was “A New Springtime of the World” and featured music from 1000 to 1200 CE sung by troubadours, trouveres, and the Notre Dame school.
The singing and instrument playing was magnificent, with great focus and heart from the performers. One did not need to know the French of old to appreciate the music.
I tried two special edition Ritter Sport chocolate bars, Konnichiwa cherry & almond and Hi There salted caramel. I found the first not that great but it is hard to do good cherry with chocolate. The second was superb and I would have again in an instant. The chocolate is also sustainly produced.
