Over labor day weekend we both took an extra day off to make it a four day weekend and head to Hornby Island. We left a little later than we wanted but still made it to Coombs to have lunch at Cuckoo's, a fantastic Italian restaurant.
I had the Italian antipasto platter, which was delicious!
My wife had the West coast crab cakes and minestrone soup. She really liked the crab cakes!
We then drove to Buckley Bay, took the ferry to Denman Island, then scooted over to take the ferry to Hornby. Once on the other side we drove almost 360 degrees around the island (there is a mountain and park to prevent a direct route) to get to the Heron Rocks camping co-operative. Its been around for about 50 years and there is a 30 year wait to be a member. As non-members we put our request after the members do. Here is our camp site after being set up.
Once set up, we had our Heron Rocks regular first supper: Kraft Dinner with extra cheese, sausages (have substituted hotdogs before), and a sparkling beverage (Normandy cider this time). Yum!
