Feelings of the Day: I know there will come a point where I will need an electric bike. I admit they’ve come a long way since first speeding onto the scene. Now their sensors and handling have improved as the batteries have gotten lighter and longer lasting. They would make long distance biking trips much easier and less grueling than useing my muscles on full all the time. So, check back with me in ten to fifteen years to ask what model I may have just bought.
Full Day’s Events: After a casual morning and lunch, it was time for some action. Two tire action. J had found a good biking route to the West and, since there was a spare e-bike, I was invited to join. I normally poo poo e-bikes, but I know they have their uses. Today they would justify their use as I haven't been on a bike since the Appian Way in Rome and not regularly biked around since February. I could use the electric assist.
As we sped past the Almazan graveyard, we peddled through regional and side roads to Barca and had a rest there beside the old 12th century church. It had nice shapes and the covered area was pleasant to stand under while admiring the grotesques high up.
Next were more open fields and roiling hills as we made a slight incline to our next rest stop, the town square of Cobertelada. Its plaza mayor was simple and quiet, with a wonderfully wilded path to a small home. It was a setting that made me smile.
Each turn on our journey brought new views and temptations to stop for pictures. The 32km, and nearly two hours we biked, made me feel good after the effort, in particular because the e-bike. I kept it in low assist mode for almost the entire journey.
Back at home base I showered, then rested with the group. Kian, the cat, also came in to clean herself and rest. A hearty supper of my stewed vegetables was served with creamy multi-coloured pasta to replenish spent calories. Negligible km and flights of stairs were walked today.
