May 01 - A Walk in the Park, Lunch at the Pool, and Well-Deserved Rest

Feelings of the Day: A deep breath. Sometimes it's needed on a vacation and it is always needed during important moments of your life: before making a big decision or saying something you might regret, making that extra effort to continue, to enjoy a special moment, or just because. Why not practice and try taking a deep breath, now?

Full Day’s Events: After a morning exchange of messages with RJGM, they were planning a low-key day after our four days of adventure. I was on my own until supper at 7pm, so I went for an hour-long walk through the town park. There I discovered a sign for a hunting and outdoor life festival, in the park, starting tomorrow for three days. I poked my head into the large open building and the large tent and saw many booths for vendors. I let R&J know in case the group was interested.

I then had lunch at the town pool. Seriously, the town pool. Las Piscinas (The Pools) is a bar and restaurant that R&J recommended. Although the pools are not filled yet, the place is popular as a quiet destination with good food. Unfortunately, the chef was off for the day so it was just pub food that was available. I had a tortilla, little sausages, a chicken wing, and fried mussels with a seafood blend inside the shell. Accompanying it was a Spanish cider from Galicia in the NW of Spain. I read as I ate and the lunch was filling without feeling overly full.

Returning to my residence I had a shower, worked on my travel diary, and read until it was time to meet RJGM. Conversation involved the buses we were taking to Madrid (in a few days), the festival, tomorrow night’s anniversary supper for G&M, laundry, and all R&J had done over the last few months in Spain. Great company, food, wine, sweets, and German herbal liqueur. 6.3km and 8 flights of stairs walked.
