April 24 - Another Moving Day

Feelings of the Day: Always return something better than how you got it. It was one of my dad’s sayings I try to abide by while going through life. It would be applied to today as I got the hacienda I was staying at ready for the new guests.

Full Day’s Events: Today I woke up with my regular routine of oatmeal and working on my travel diary/email/posts, but that is about the only thing that was normal. Today it was time to move residences so that R’s brother G, and G’s wife M, could move in. With most of my things packed, I started by cleaning up the hacienda from top to bottom and replacing the sheets. As I cleaned, Kian the cat often made her appearance ensuring everything was correct.

I swept up the walkway to the main residence then R and I tag teamed scrubbing the clay tiles on the main deck to remove the slightly slippery organic film.

We had a communal lunch and while R&J drove to Madrid airport to pick up G&M, I made a trip, with one bag, to my new residence in Puerta de la Villa Hostel and Restaurant. It is just outside the clock tower gate, to the plaza mayor, so its very central to everything. The bartender and owner did not know much English and between our translation apps, and a helpful friend of the bartender, I got myself checked in.

Because it was blazing hot, I only made one trip each hour with minimal luggage and drank plenty of water. When I went to get my last items from the hacienda, Kian came right into the main house, laid down on the couch, and closed her eyes to rest from the heat. I nearly copied her and did have to sit down for a while, eating an orange and having lots of water, after I felt light headed.

While taking a break, R&J let me know that they would all be eating somewhere on the way back so I gathered my last items, left the keys, and made my way to my new residence until the sun got lower in the horizon. I took the time to unpack the basics, have a cool shower, read, and drink lots of water. Supper was at Bar Lacalle, right by the plaza mayor, with a light supper of a ham sandwich and a generous tortilla (egg and potato pie slice). 4.9km and 32 flights walked.
