Feelings of the Day: I was missing Natalie while in Europe for the last month. Keeping occupied helped, but even then my thoughts turned to her as I imagined she would like to do the things I was doing. This trip was an experiment on the length of time we would be comfortable with and I was finding my limit.
Full Day’s Events: First jaunt of the day was to the hunting and outdoor festival and most vendors were…not there yet and by most I mean everyone except for seven. I did pick up some cured boar to share with the RJGM gang later, so I call that a win.
A nice winter scene of Almazan from the air was at the tourism booth.
After a quick walk, I went to the post office to inquire about shipping some items home in the five to ten pound range. My bags were nearly full when coming to Europe and now they were quite full. Two years ago it was around 40 euros to send back our winter clothes we had brought and no longer needed. Unfortunately, the cost to ship in that weight range would now be 75 to 125 euros. I picked up some postcard stamps instead.
Being near the post office permitted me to walk to the town regional bus stop and slowly walk to where I was staying. At nine minutes I added an extra 50% for the added weight I would be carrying and pulling to come up with 15 minutes to get to the bus station, which would be happening in two days time. The buildings that were crumbling and run down in this area were interesting to see and had me wondering who owned them.
Mateos, just across the bridge by the park entrance, was my destination for a big lunch (la comida). Since their kitchen would not be ready for an hour I went back to the hunting and outdoor festival. There were more vendors and an outdoor small tent filled with different birds for farming: chickens, ducks, grouse, pheasant, etc. Quite the sights, sounds, and smells coming from the avians there.
I took a short walk through the park and returned to Mateos. I ordered the daily comida and chose the spaghetti with ham and cheesy cream sauce, as I was missing Italian pasta, and an order of meatballs in wine sauce. The waiter asked me what I would like to drink. I told him vino rosso so he brought over a red wine bottle, poured me a glass, and left the bottle. I asked him, when he brought the meatballs, why he left the bottle and said it was included in the price. Although not fantastic wine, it tasted nice with the meal. I also got my choice of dessert, with coffee, so a flan and cafe con leche were slowly and deliciously consumed. The amount of food made me a little lethargic so I rested, showered, and read.
Just before seven pm I went to RJGM’s residence and had a great supper where the star was the gazpacho-like soup J made with crumbly egg and bacon sprinkled in. As a side was the tasty cured boar. 7.1km and 23 flights walked.
