Roman Bathing and Burying in Strange Places

When conducting some renovations on the town hall, they found Roman baths underneath. They just left them as they were and renovated around them. Bravo!
There was also another room with exposed ruins that was the place in the Roman baths where they would have the colder pools.
Nearby they uncovered a Roman Necropolis under a secondary school. Below is the newer main hall done in the late 1800's.
The late 1700's outer building also looks great.

Restaurante 1/4 Pras 9

We had an enjoyable supper at Restaurante 1/4 Pras 9. We started with Iberian shaved ham on melons, a very nice salty/sweet combination.
Then we had their catapana or fish stew.
It was super delicious and although I had it in Selema and here I would have it many times more to experience the differences.

Pensao Residencial Policarpo

While staying in Evora, we hung our hats at Pensao Residential Policarpo. They were very reasonably priced and even offered a discount with our Rick Steves book and also they are within the city walls. The breakfasts were expanded continental in a nice older room or their balcony.

Evora and its Streets

Evora is a city much older than its outer walls suggest. It has Roman, Moor, Middle Ages and Manualine architecture.

Almendres Cromlech

Before going to Evora, we went to two prehistoric sites: the Almendres Cromlech and the menhir nearby.

These stones are orientated in an ellipse stretching East and West, with it sloping to the East, and several of the stones are orientated to mark solstices and the position of the sun and moon at various times. It was started ~6000 BCE and added to until ~3000 BCE.

Below is my wife showing the direction by her compass to the East.
There are also many other prehistoric stone cromlechs, dolmens and menhirs in the area to the West of Evora.
Here is the one on the way out from the Almendres site.

Castles and Stork Nests on the Way from Tavira to Evora

We took some pictures of two castles that we saw on the way from Tavira to Evora. We were to see many more in the distance and realize that we would not be able to see them all.
Also saw tons of stork nests on the utility poles.

Tavira - Aquasul Restaurant

The Aquasul restaurant in Tavira was superb. We both had the fish stew with coconut flavoured rice.
My wife had for dessert the warm figs with cheese.
I had the house made nougat ice cream with berry compote.
