Almendres Cromlech

Before going to Evora, we went to two prehistoric sites: the Almendres Cromlech and the menhir nearby.

These stones are orientated in an ellipse stretching East and West, with it sloping to the East, and several of the stones are orientated to mark solstices and the position of the sun and moon at various times. It was started ~6000 BCE and added to until ~3000 BCE.


Below is my wife showing the direction by her compass to the East.
There are also many other prehistoric stone cromlechs, dolmens and menhirs in the area to the West of Evora.
 Here is the one on the way out from the Almendres site.
