France - Paris day 06 - Palace of Versailles - Part 1 of 3

The Palace of Versailles, started in 1664 and finished in 1710, was the seat of the French aristocracy from 1682 to 1789. This was the seat of French power during that time.
Statue of Louis the fourteenth, who started its expansion into the palace it is known as today. His father, Louis the thirteenth, bought it from an Italian to convert it to a hunting lodge then a chateau.
This is a scale model of the palace and I just can't ignore a well made scale model. Not 1/25th scale alas.
A statue of a monkey riding a goat. Not to say that the French royals were bored but when you tell someone that you've had your fill of wonderful art and architechture and want a statue of a monkey on a goat, perhaps it was time for a revolution. Just saying...
 The chapel at Versailles. Wonderful...beautiful...opulent.
 The ceiling of the chapel.
One of the many, many beautiful rooms. As you can see, never forget to look up but watch for pickpockets.

A statue of King Louis. Somehow I don't think he worked out that much.
A corner of one ceiling. Just wow.

The hall of mirrors, finished in 1690, is one of the quintessential rooms of the palace and has been copies in the centuries afterwards.
