Inside Notre Dame was a calming experience. Not because of a religious experience but because of the respect and admiration to the generations of builders.
The high ceilings and gentle light filtered through stained glass made the people within stop and soak in the moment. This is a problem during the high season as pickpockets are rampant.
The wheel of stained glass, In particular, gave both my wife and i several minutes of contemplation. Click on it, and any other pictures, for a better look.
Stone and glass are not the sole works of art. These wooden carvings of Jesus's life are extraordinarily well done and well painted.
Back to the architecture, imagine generations of masons working on a series of columns. Look closely at the brick work for the ceiling.
Lastly, here is a close up of some stained glass.
