France -Paris day 04 - d'Orsay museum

The d'Orsay museum was originally a train station finished in 1900. It was not usable with the longer trains in use in the late 30s so i became a suburban train station. It became more run down and was scheduled permission to be demolished for a hotel but was instead converted for use as an art museum by 1986. It mainly has French works from 1848 to 1915, but they have other items.
The lack of photos is not because I do not like art but because you are not allowed. That did not stop some from sneaking photos with a cell phone though. And by sneaking I mean walking up to van Gogh's "Starry Night", quickly taking a picture and leaving for the next one. No appreciation of the brush strokes, the lighting, the gentle way an image was produced that could make such a profound affect on millions. Just a "duh...its famous", snap picture, gone. I am not an art snob. I just know what I like and if you are part of the 15 second generation then perhaps an art museum is not for you. Rant over.
 They have a magnificent clock.
Here is a somber statue trying to see over the Seine river.
Some nice statues of different ethnic groups, created for the world exposition in 1878. We really enjoyed the visit but with so many others being there because of the snow it was too crowded. The restaurant was awesome, soon to be posted separately.

As a note, get the museum pass at the airport or elsewhere downtown. It may seem like an expensive way to go but you will save some money by going to about two museums a day and you also get to skip the lines.

We were also almost scammed on the walk there. The situation was seeing a man about to pass us and he noticeably stops and picks up a ring. They then give it to you and say its a gift for a happy stay in Paris. They then wait till you start walking and ask for some money for food because the ring is worth something. I just put the ring back on the bench nearby awhen it was obvious that he was not going to take the ring back or get money out of us.
