Helsinki - Parks and Statues

There are many parks in Helsinki. Several have statues dedicated to Zacharias Topelius with Greek/Roman influences. He was a teacher, writer, poet, and historian in the mid 1850's. I particularly like the bird perching on top of this one.

Some are just in nice areas. The statue here is of Zacharias Topelius reading to children.

This one is of the Three Smiths statue, by Felix Nylund in 1932. It suffered heavy damage from bombing during the Continuation War in 1944 and the effects of those bombs can be seen today on the statue.
There is also modern statues here and there, like the below sturgeon.
The Kaisaniemi Park next to the Central Train Station is quite large and the gardening is managed by the University of Helsinki.
The locals curse the Canadians for the geese that poop everywhere but this local is having fun with them.
Their playgrounds remind me that we need more adventurous playgrounds and by that I mean less worried about injury. Look like fun!
