Belem - Monument to the Discoveries and Tower of Belem

The original monument was built for the 1940 World's fair but was demolished in 1943. In 1958, a government decree was made to have a replacement made and in 1960 it was complete. It has many figures on both sides who were important to important discoveries. Wiki article here.

The tower of Belem was built in the early 16th century for use as a fort to defend Lisbon.
