Lisbon - Streets of Alfama part 1 of 3

The entrance to the fortified town at the top of Alfama. It was built by the Moors as a defensive measure.
The castle was also built by the Moors but re-purposed for the Portuguese royal family until the 16th century. After the 1755 earthquake it was damaged and rebuilt by the dictator Salazar in the 20th century.
Some places still had Saint Anthony decorations up from the celebrations in June.
The tilework, as always, is impressive.
They have trolleys everywhere but we mostly walked or took taxi's.
