Estremoz

Estremoz is the second largest producer of marble and home to a walled town and castle. You actually have to drive through the wall, like Evora, to get inside. It is surrounded by grape vines.

The streets are quite narrow and the local populace, young and old, directed us up to the castle with smiles and waves.
This is the second gate to the inner town and castle. Apparently the local lord built another castle in the 15th century to have a place to live when the often visiting king stayed. Eventually this second castle was used for courtesans. It is now a state run hotel that looks really swanky...in a non-courtesan way.

This is the side courtyard for the hotel. Lots of nice cars and nicely dressed people were walking around this area.
The older walls had fantastic views of the area, as a castle should!
