Corbridge Roman Town Site

The Corbridge Roman Town site has been excellently excavated. There are informative signs and it is situated in lovely fields.

The main East/West street through the town was part of the Roman road connecting many settlements behind Hadrian's Wall.
A panorama of the site. Just click on it.
 Pillars beside the road.
A drainage system for water and such.
The stronghouse that contained the soldier's pay. They were paid four times a year and could bank funds here as well.
 The large granaries.
The site has sunken over the centuries because the previous two earthworks forts were not properly filled in and flattened, causing mismatched settling.
