Our guide was quite passionate about the history of York and he showed us to several places around the city. Many we had been to before but we learned more about those places.
Also saw these lovely berries.
He most interesting new place was this building, near the art gallery, was the King's Manor. This was the old abbot residence, before the dissolvement, when it became the seat for the Council of the North. It has changed hands and uses several times and is now part of the University of York, for its departments of Archeology, medieval studies, and 18th century studies.
This is the inner courtyard of the building.
The Treasurer's House has quite a grand estate and is open to the public for viewing. There is a Roman road that was uncovered during work in the basement.
A pleasant tour that I would recommend as a first tour or a "best of" at the end of staying here.
