Steel Rigg to Milecastle 42

Another start of a day of hiking Hadrian's wall. Steel Rigg to Housesteads is listed as a UNESCO walk here. We are heading West from Steel Rigg though, not the West to East path they mention.
Approaching Windshields crags. The vallum is just to the right of the path.
Looking East at were we came. The closer wooded area is Steel Rigg.
Looking over the wall and vallum to the North
A marker for the highest point in the wall!
The way ahead to the West.

 Milecastle 42

The Milecastle 42 gap in the wall. It originally had a door in Roman times but the steep side on the North precluded it so it was blocked up. A true sign of, "Well the officer wants a gate here so we're putting a gate here lads!". Now its open for farm animals and such.
