Aydon Castle

Aydon Castle is a fortified manor house of excellent condition built in 1296 and renovated at various times. Because it was used as a farm from the middle of the 17th century till 1966 it has not been severely altered. After being taken over by English Heritage, it was restored as a medieval manor house.

 The main gate.
 Entryway to the fortified manor.
 The inner courtyard.
 An excellent window decoration.
 The main hall.
 Stables
The walled garden with apple trees. We were invited to try some by the curator.
The back wall. An interesting castle.
