(Delayed posting. Visited during summer 2024)
The grounds around Grand-Pre National Park are always a good walk through history in pleasant surroundings. The setting on the edge of the reclaimed diked land of the Acadians is inspiring for what humans can do with basic tools and knowledge.
Today there was a festival celebrating Acadian culture including music in the big tent. Although my French is rusty the songs were sung with heart and soul that bridged any gap in my comprehension of the words.
The church is a recreation on what could be the site of the original Acadian church. Inside there is information on the Acadians focusing on the expulsion and return.
The grounds are always well tended. The fruit trees are a nice acknowledgment of the robust agriculture in the Annapolis valley started by the Acadians.
This picture looks to North Grand-Pre but what was Long Island before the dikes were built.
There is also a blacksmith shop on the grounds near a garden.
Another view of the reclaimed land.
Well, here is a well as it would have looked back then.
