Hector Heritage Quay

(Delayed posting. Visited during summer 2024)

A museum we visited in Pictou was the Hector Heritage Quay. Here they are refurbishing a recreation of the Hector, which brought Scottish settlers here in 1773. I was glad I visited this museum as Scottish settlers were not discussed in school.

Inside the building provides a background for the Scottish people and the reasons why they left Scotland. It also speaks of the living conditions onboard the Hector and their way of life when they first arrived.

A summer gathering with the Pictou Landing band and Pictou residents.

Because this property is for the refurbishment and upkeep of the Hector you need lots of tools and storage, hence the reason for the outbuildings.

A view of the upper decks of the Hector.

Bunks were small and tightly packed.

This is the launch in 2000 after it had been built. They plan to relaunch, with a big splash, on July 12th this year.
