Streets of Pictou

(Delayed posting. Visited during summer 2024)

The Pictou area had Mi'kmaq peoples here and the name Pictou comes from the Mi'kmaq name for the area, Pictuk. They gathered here annually in the summer before colonists arrived. Settlers arrived here on the Betsy in 1767. The next wave of settlers were from Scotland and had left there because of the Highland Clearances of the late 1700's and early 1800's onboard the Hector. More followed to this area and Cape Breton.

Below is the new town cultural centre, just finishing being built.

The shortbread here is quite good.

The Love Local area with shops and food trucks.

For supper the first night I ate take out from Aladdin Syrian Canadian Restaurant, because of rave reviews online. I was not disappointed.

I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap: chicken (thinly sliced, stacked in a cone, and slowly roasted),
greens, and garlic mayo). Yum!

As a side I had the naan and the greenest baba ganouch I have ever had. Tasty.

On our second day here, my spouse's first, we walked around some more until we met friends who live nearby.

Pictou is a nice small community.
