Spain Day 19n - Procession outside our window

Just like last night, there was a procession for holy week that we observed. This time it passed outside of our hotel window!

According to the pamphlet we got it was the platform of the Christ of love from the Toledo cathedral.

People had lined up while we were packing and getting ready for bed. We stayed up to see the event.

Men and women were part of the procession.

The pamphlet was interesting to look through for the different clothing people part of the procession would be wearing.

Double sided too.

Spain Day 19m - El Trebol

Our second night eating at Trebol. We ate outside this time. First drinks and appetizer of fresh chips and olives.

Stuffed tomato (avacado, smoked sardine, and ajo blanco or garlic and almond cream)

A main of grilled vegetables (zucchini, broccoli, red pepper, corn, asparagus, mushrooms, and romescu sauce) and meat grill (ribs, Iberian pork, beef, marinated chicken, deer).

For dessert a cheese cake with manchego cheese and red fruit sauce.

Spain Day 19l - Streets of Toledo

Here are some pictures of interesting things in the streets of Toledo.

Nun dolls making cookies and pastries in a store that also does so.

Spain 19k - Royal College of Maidens

With five minutes to go until it closed, in the Royal College of Royal Maidens, we were only able to see the mausoleum of Cardinal Juan Martinez Siliceo. It was a girl's school built in 1551 and in 1990 it became a residence of the Toledo university.

He rested here in a wooden box covered by a black cloth until sculptor Ricardo Bellver y Ramon made the cardinal's current mausoleum in 1890.

Spain Day 19j - San Ildefonso Church

San Ildefonso is a Jesuit church done in the Baroque style. Started in 1629 it was finished in 1765. Unfortunatly for the Jesuits, the order was expelled from Spain by King Charles the third for instigating the Esquilache riots in 1766. They were not to return until the 20th century.

The bonus of this church is that you can climb one tower, go across a walkway, and descend down the other tower.

There is great views from inside the city walls.

Spain Day 19i - Tourist Train

We decided to take a tourist train in order to see the outside of the city without having to depend on the busses or a taxi. It was fun. Tickets were sold in the Zocodover square.

We left by the North gate.

Then we went clockwise around the walled city of Toledo.

For around 10 minutes we stopped on the South ridge to take pictures of Toledo. Fantastic views.

Then it was back through the North gate, continuing clockwise.
