Spain Day 12c - Alhambra Part 3 - Palacios Nazaries

The Palacios Nazaries is the most beautiful, mesmerizing, and most changed place in the Alcazar. The first area, the Mexuar, is the oldest and was built in the early 1500's. Successive rulers, Islamic and Christian, have made changes as the decades moved on.

Entrance to the Palacios Nazaries is by timed ticket and if you miss your assigned time you will not be able to enter. Plan accordingly.

As tourists are judged due to errors in telling time, this area was originally used for judicial purposes. It was modified for use as a chapel after the Reconquista.

The room is a great introduction for what you are about to see. The ornate ceilings, in stone and wood...

...the floors with stone and tile...

...and the elegantly carved walls. Each room is different and some areas of the same room have different carvings. Lots of time can be spent looking and looking.

This is the courtyard of Mexuar and through the far doors is the entrance to the Comares palace.

Even the transitions from rom to room have detailed workings.

Mixed with the monotone carvings are tilework in geometric patterns.

Occasionally some wildlife can be seen, also enjoying the elegance.
