Spain 19g - Toledo Cathedral

The cathedral in Toledo is dedicated to Saint Mary, was started in 1226, and finished in 1493. It also has some Mudejar touches in portions of the structure. As with many cathedrals and churches, it was built on the site of a mosque, which was built on the site of an early church during the Visigoth period.

This is not the visitor entrance but rather one you can go into a roped off area to have a quick look. The real entrance was either on the East or South side.

One would think we were cathedral'd out by this point in our trip but with each one having their own unique style we again were drawn into the art and architecture on display.

The organ above the choir.

Each seat had its own story carved into it as well as a humorous one down lower.

The huge retable is done in Gothic style.

The chapterhouse.

The ceiling as marvelous geometry.

Some of the platforms that have already been paraded  around Toledo during holy week finish here.

The door here is massive!

The small column to the left is from the original Visigoth era church that was once here.

The sacristy.

At the end is a work by El Greco, of course, "The Disrobing of Christ".

I was struck by this modern art, by Jose Maria Cano in 2017, "Subida al Monte Carmelo" or "Climb Mont Carmel". The texture of the water was interesting and mesmerizing.

The detail in the painting and decorative work is mind boggling.
