Spain Day 17f - Santa Maria de Montserrat Basilica and Candle

The basilica of the Montserrat monastery was dark with little light from inside or the sun. I think they were evoking the cave hermitages that were in the Montserrat area. To see the Black Madonna you had to prearrange a time.

Here is the courtyard after entering the frount.

A tomb of a wealthy donor.

A modern statue of a religious person.

The inside of the basilica.

The altar.

The Black Madonna.

After leaving the basilica we had to travel down this tunnel.

It came out into this rough hewn area where candles were. People could donate money for one. The more money, the bigger the candle.

The multitude of candles was quite nice to look at.

A wonderful angel statue was in the middle of the area.

We then could leave.

We then, after a short walk around, left Montserrat. It was a nice experience.
