Spain Day 11b - Walk around Central Granada

After leaving the cathedral, we stopped into the Royal Chapel which houses the coffins of Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand. They were the two Spanish royals who married, joined their kingdoms, and took over the remaining Moorish parts of Spain. They also eventually declared Muslims persona non grata as well as those of Jewish descent, so some controversy. No pictures inside were permitted but it was interesting.

This is the last Moorish caravanserai in Granada. This is where merchant caravans would stop, rest, and sell goods to locals and in the market. There was 14 but the other ones were torn down after the Reconquista. Inside was an art gallery and a very well done display showing the history of the area through time.

Here is the Arabian souk or market. It had limited entrances to it so that the rich goods inside could be better protected. It is still used as a market today.

The plaza da Bib-Rambla.

The Neptune statue at the end of the square.

One of the facings of the Granada cathedral with stands for Holy week.

The tops of some buildings.

Plaza Isabel la Catolica.

The capability of the sculpture for this statue is incredible.
