Spain Day 07b - Amphitheatre of Roman Italica

The Amphitheatre entrance would have been impressive to visitors and locals alike. It was one of the biggest ones in the Roman empire and could seat 25,000 people which is much larger than the Italica population of 8,000.

Around the structure was a passageway with many rooms.

The remains of the structure are still impressive today.

I liked being able to look into the sub-structure and peeking behind the layers to see how it was made.

The upper structure still stands in parts, revealing more of its engineering.

One of the rooms going from the outer passageway to the upper levels.

The pit in the center of the Amphitheatre would have been used by the gladiators, actors, and other participants in the shows to enter the main field and entertain the audience.

Definitely an impressive sight and a rare treat to walk through.
